Rapid Refunds's Frequently Asked Questions

If you do not find the answers to your questions below, please call one of our tax specialists on 0800 071 2222.

Q. When does the Irish tax year start and finish?
A: The Irish tax year runs from 1 January to 31 December. Even if you worked all or part of the tax year, you can still get a refund.

Q. What is a P45?
A: When you finish working for an employer, you will receive a Form P45. This is a statement of your earnings from 1 January up to that date. If you begin working in another job, you must give the new employer the P45. When you finish working completely, either when you leave or have left Ireland, or simply not working before 31 December, you should forward your P45 to us together with the downloadable forms on this site.

Q. What is a P60?
A: A P60 is a statement of everything you earned in that tax year, 1st January to 31st December.

Q. How far back can I claim?
A: You can go back as far as 2002.

Q. Can I only claim for one job if the others were only part time?
A: No you have to declare your entire earnings even if you only work a part time position. All income must be declared to the Inland Revenue.

Q. Can I claim for just one tax year if that's all I want to claim?
A: No, you have to claim for your entire work history.

Q. What official documents are required by the Tax Office?
A: You will need to make a signed declaration of various facts but will not be asked to produce a Passport or provide Work Permit details.

Q. I don't have a bank account can I get cash from your office?
A: Providing you have a Passport we are happy to pay your claim in cash. If not we can always deposit the money into a nominees account.

Q. I won't get my P45 from my last job until I have left the country can I still lodge my return?
A: Yes we can lodge the claim with the tax office and then forward them the P45 once we receive it.

Q. Can I lodge a tax claim on my friend's behalf?
A: Yes, but you would not be able to sign the forms on their behalf. You can always collect the forms or we would be pleased to post them or email them to your friend.

Q. I have already been to the tax office to claim but they are taking such a long time can you take it over?
A: Yes we can, but you will need to download and complete the forms on our website.

Q. How much money will I get back?
A: We can only calculate this once we have the information from all your employers. But remember, no rebate and there is no fee, so we want to get you as much as we can.

Q. How long does all this take?
A: Usually between 5 - 7 weeks. The Tax Office are very slow and it varies depending on a number of factors, such as missing P45's, the time of year the application is submitted etc.
